7 Terms Used in Street BMX Riding

For those of you whom are new to BMX street riding, there are a few things you should know involved with modern BMX lingo. If I were you, I wouldn't go out riding until you're up to date of these 7 most used terms in street BMX riding.

1) "BIFF" or "BIFFED"

This term is most often used in replacement of "mess up" or "crashed". Example: "Whoa! You totally biffed that jump!"

2) "20's"

This is simply a way of talking about your tire size. "Themz 20's or 15's?". Also sometimes known as "dubs".

3) "CAN-CAN"

A trick where the rider removes one foot from the pedal and putting it over the handle bars and back.

4) "BUNNY-HOP"

The name has remained the same since the first trickster preformed it. It is preformed by learning to lift both wheels off the ground momentarily, while riding the bike. It is the most basic trick a rider can learn.

5) "CHAIN"

This is the chain that turns your rear wheel when you pedal forward.

6) "PEGS"

Two cylinder shaped tubs, usually made of alloy or steel, that fit on the rear frame of the bike, replacing the stock bolts that hold in the rear wheel, while giving you strong pegs that you can do tricks on, like wheelies.

7) "MISSION"

This can be used for a general term of "night riding" (riding at night to any destination) or as a more specific term for riding to places that would ban tricks, stunts or general riding during the day. "Wanna go on a mission?"
